It can be hard to find the time to eat healthily. Trust me I know. Between work and family obligations it seems like you can never make time for yourself to eat healthily or to cook something healthy you can take on the go while you run your errands or head to work. While some snacks are fairly quick to make you still have to think about the clean up afterward and if it’s safe to take on your morning commute. There are so many factors involved that get in the way of us trying to succeed and be healthy in life it’s amazing we can do what we do at all. So when it comes to packaged snacks I’m a little weary.
Why am I weary? Well, companies have figured out that by marketing something as healthy they can make more money even if it isn’t. So they legally fudge their labels as much as they possibly can. If you actually read the labels of some so-called “healthy” snacks you realize they are filled with sugar and other undesirable ingredients that can actually cause weight gain or worse health issues. Now, I know it’s much easier to grab the packaged items, but you really have to pay attention to every little thing in the packaged item before you actually buy it which also takes time. So I decided I would share with you some healthy snacks I have discovered that are packaged. Obviously, if you have allergies or other conditions you should still read the back of these labels but these are probably the healthiest packaged snacks on the market!
1. Dole’s Wildly Nutritious Mixed Berries
This snack is jam-packed with antioxidants, fiber, and vitamin C. Not only is it easy to take on the go or when you’re traveling, but it’s about as healthy as you’re going to get for a packaged item. 1 cup which is 1 serving size of the product is 70 calories it has 0 fat, 0 protein, 0 sodium and 17 grams carbohydrates. So while it’s a little high on the carbohydrates that are common for dried fruit and is nothing to worry too much about. Unless you’re on a super low carb diet this is a great healthy snack!
2. The Good Bean Roasted Chickpeas and Cracked Pepper
Chickpeas are so good for you! They help with insulin resistance and are great for everyone, but especially people who suffer from diabetes! This packaged snack is super healthy and has 5 grams of protein, 5 grams of fiber, 3 grams of fat! It’s definitely a great healthy option to take on the go or to work with you. Just tell your coworkers you’re not sharing, because it’s delicious too!
3. Siggi’s Icelandic Style Skyr Plain 4% Whole-milk Yogurt
This is probably my favorite yogurt on the market. It’s got absolutely nothing bad in it and is delicious! I was a little confused on how to pronounce it at first if I’m being honest so just so you’re in the know, it’s pronounced “Skeer”. It has no artificial sweeteners and doesn’t need them either! It contains in one container 11 grams of protein, 100 calories, 5 grams of fat, 45 mg sodium and 4 grams of carbs! It’s literally the perfect snack to take to school, work or anywhere. Now about getting it on airplanes, you may have some trouble with that since it could be considered a liquid! So be sure to only use this snack if you’re traveling in a car!
4. Boom Chicka Pop Sea Salt and Vinegar Popcorn
This gluten-free snack is also low calorie and pretty darn healthy! It’s made entirely of organic ingredients so no GMOs can be found here! And it’s a whole grain popcorn to top it all off! This snack is tasty, heavenly and healthy. A serving size is considered 2 2/3 cup which contains 150 calories, 2 grams of protein, 9 grams of fat, 240 mg of sodium and 17 carbs. Again if you’re trying to watch your carbs you may want to pick something else, but for everyone else, this is an amazing low calories snack! It’s again perfect for on the go moments! You can even eat it in the car while waiting in traffic. Love this popcorn!
5. dang Caramel Sea Salt Toasted Coconut Chips
These chips are vegan, gluten-free, a good source of iron and a good source of healthy fats. They are made with, you guessed it, coconut oils! They are delicious, easy to take on the go and have a great amount of nutrition within them for a packaged snack.
In .7 oz there are 115 calories, 1 gram of protein, 7 grams of fat, 115 mg of sodium and only 12 cabs! So it’s a fairly well-balanced snack and believe me, it’s delicious!
I hope that I have helped you with your quest for healthy packaged snacks. There are more out there, but these are just some of my personal favorites that I have found. Sometimes it’s easier to be healthy when you already have a head start with information.
